Thighs are important features of a womans body and give them a uniquely feminine shape and curvature. They are also preferred place of fat accumulation and give disproportionate appearance to the body. Fat deposited around the anterior or front of the thigh can make thigh protrude forward that gives a heavy bottom look to the body.

How much fat can be removed from Anterior-Thigh through Liposuction?

While performing liposuction on anterior thigh, it is more important to get optimally smooth results than to remove maximum amount of fat. This is because if liposuction is performed more than required i.e. more than 60% of the fat is removed from anterior thigh, it can produce ugly irregularities. This can result in scooped-out appearance and patient dissatisfaction. That is why surgeons avoid to comply with any request from patient to take out more fat specifically from this area of the body.

Procedure

Anterior thigh liposuction is performed from different directions to ensure total consistency of application and to maintain balance and proportion throughout the entire leg. The most important part of the procedure is to draw precise markings of the target area for ultimate result and patient satisfaction. Liposuction of the anterior thigh is done with a focus on deeper planes, while the thick outer superficial layer of fat is not touched. Extra deposits of fat only in the deeper plane is removed that gives a smooth and balanced contour to the body.

Special Considerations

Liposuction of fatty thigh should not be performed as entire thigh circumference liposuction in a single visit. Although the patient may feel that they can undergo a single procedure to remove extra fat from whole of the thigh, but it is not recommended. It should preferably be done one area per visit in the serial manner. The single visit liposuction of entire thigh may predispose to thrombosis and thromboembolism.

Why are serial liposuction surgeries preferred over single entire thigh circumference liposuction?

• Serial surgeries performed one by one virtually eliminates the chances of edema but entire thigh liposuction causes swelling for a long time
• Patient can return to work in 1-2 days after each surgery in serial procedure while there is long postoperative disability after entire thigh liposuction
• Sequential thigh liposuction reduces the risk of venous stasis and thromboembolic venous disease.
